At the Zakatul Maal Islamee Foundation (ZMIF), our mission is clear: to alleviate poverty, uplift communities, and provide hope to those who need it most. We do this through a wide range of projects and initiatives that address the most pressing needs of vulnerable populations in Nigeria. From providing basic necessities like food and shelter to offering educational opportunities and healthcare, ZMIF is dedicated to making a lasting impact. Our work is driven by our core values of compassion, transparency, and impact, and it is made possible by the generosity of donors, volunteers, and partners who share our vision of a better world. Below, you’ll find an overview of the key projects that define our work, as well as the real-life stories of the people whose lives have been changed by your support.

1. Orphan Sponsorship Programme

Orphans are among the most vulnerable members of society, often facing significant challenges in accessing basic needs such as food, shelter, and education. At ZMIF, we believe that every child deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their circumstances. That’s why our Orphan Sponsorship Programme is one of the cornerstones of our work. Through this programme, we provide comprehensive support to orphaned children across Nigeria. This includes:

Food and Nutrition

We ensure every child in our program receives regular, nutritious meals, supporting their growth and development for a brighter future.

Shelter

We provide safe, secure housing for orphans, ensuring a stable environment where they can live, grow, and thrive to their fullest potential.

Education

Education ends poverty. We cover school fees, provide materials, and ensure every child receives quality education for their future.

Emotional & Social Support

We provide emotional and social support, addressing the trauma and challenges many children have faced beyond material needs.

2. Food Distribution Programme

Hunger is a daily reality for millions of people in Nigeria, particularly in rural and impoverished areas. Our Food Distribution Programme is designed to combat this issue by providing regular food parcels to those who are most in need. Each parcel contains essential staples like rice, beans, oil, and other non-perishable items that can sustain a family for a month. We focus on reaching the most vulnerable populations, including:

Elderly
Individuals

Many elderly people in Nigeria lack the resources and support to meet their basic needs. Our food parcels help alleviate their struggles.

Single Mothers and Widows

Often facing financial and social challenges, these women are prioritised in our food distribution efforts.

People with Disabilities

Providing them with essential food supplies to ensure they are not left behind.

Our food distribution efforts are not just about providing immediate relief; they are also about empowering communities to become more resilient in the face of food insecurity. In addition to distributing food, we work to educate communities about nutrition and sustainable agricultural practices.

3. Education for All

Education is key to better futures. In Nigeria, our Education for All initiative breaks barriers, ensuring every child can learn and succeed.
Key components of this programme include:
• Scholarships: We provide financial assistance to cover school fees for children who would otherwise be unable to attend school. These scholarships are awarded based on need, academic potential, and commitment to education.
• Educational Materials: Many families struggle to afford basic school supplies, such as uniforms, textbooks, and stationery. We provide these essential materials to ensure that children are equipped to succeed in their studies.
• School Infrastructure: In partnership with local communities, we work to improve the infrastructure of schools, ensuring that students have safe and conducive learning environments. This includes building classrooms, providing desks and chairs, and improving sanitation facilities.
• After-School Programs: To enhance the learning experience, we offer after-school programs that provide tutoring, mentorship, and extracurricular activities. These programs help children develop critical thinking skills, build confidence, and explore their talents.

4. Medical Aid Programme

Access to healthcare is a fundamental human right, yet millions of Nigerians lack the medical services they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives. Our Medical Aid Programme is designed to address this gap by providing free healthcare services to those who cannot afford them.

Our healthcare initiatives include:

Free Clinics

We operate free medical clinics in underserved areas, providing general healthcare, vaccinations, and maternal and child health care. Volunteer doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers staff these clinics, delivering compassionate care to all patients.

Mobile Medical Units

In remote areas where healthcare facilities are scarce, we deploy mobile medical units that travel to communities in need. These units provide essential services, including health screenings, treatment for common illnesses, and referrals to specialised care.

Health Education

We believe in prevention over cure. Our health education programs teach communities about hygiene, disease prevention, and healthy living. By empowering people with knowledge, we help them take control of their health and make informed choices for a better future.

Medical Supplies and Equipment

We supply hospitals and clinics with essential medical supplies and equipment, enhancing the quality of care they can provide. Our support helps ensure that healthcare facilities are well-equipped to meet patient needs and deliver effective, high-quality care.
